Berry Picking
Two weekends ago, we decided that we needed to get out and do something. We called up Lauren and Evan and decided to brave the heat and threat of thunderstorms and go berry picking. We knew strawberry picking season was almost over, so if we wanted them, we needed to do it soon. So we threw on grubby clothes and headed out the door. Our family picked the strawberries and Lauren's picked raspberries.
Abby was really good at picking the small, white strawberries. So we told her to just pick and eat whatever she wanted. She did really good at that.
With Carson, we told him we could really use his help. So if he picked a strawberry and the green stem was still there, it went in the box. If the green part came off, then he could eat it. 9 times out of 10, the green part came off. Pretty sure he did that on purpose. :-)
So while our kids stuffed their faces, Andrew and I slaved in the sun and managed to pick a little over 18 pounds of strawberries. We were so filthy by the time we were done. It took a few days to scrub off the dirt on my arms and legs. But so worth it! Now we have a plethora of strawberry and raspberry jam and enjoyed eating fresh berries for the next few days. Totally recommend picking your own berries. So good!
