New additon to the family

We are so excited that in the next few days we will be welcoming a new addition to our family. On Monday we went out and purchased everything we needed to set up for our new member. Hopefully by this weekend we can pick them up and get them established here. Who (or shall I say what) is this new member? I'll give ya a hint...they are small, wet and swim around. Its a fish! We are excited to report that we purchased a fish tank and hopefully by the end of the week we can get ourselves a fish. Since we now live in a place where we can have pets, we decided it was high time to get one. Well Andrew doesn't want a dog, I don't want a cat because half of my family is allergic, birds are too loud, and anything from the reptile family is out of the question...that basically left us with fish or hamsters. We figured we'd start small and get a fish. On Monday we went to the pet store with the idea that we were just going to buy a Beta fish. But as we were looking at them, they just looked so sad. So we started to look at the other fish. Well the beta fish idea turned into a "hey let's just get an aquarium so then we can get a lot of fish"! Our $10 original purchase idea turned into a $100 purchase. We purchased a 10-gallon aquarium, all the filters and heaters and junk, rocks, fake plants, water conditioner, and net. Andrew found this Cambodian-style house (Bayon) for the fish. So naturally we had to get it. We got home and got our tank all set up. It takes about 24 hours to make sure that your water is the right temperature and that all the nitrates are gone (or something like that). So all we need to do is get our water tested to make sure it's good to go, and then it's fishy time! Here are some photos of our aquarium. More aquarium adventures to follow!

Courtney - Fish are my kind of pets! I am totally in agreement with you about the dogs, cats, and reptiles. Fish seem easy because they stay in one place and don't demand the same attention as other animals (knock on wood).
