Hurricane Preparedness 101

What does one do when sitting around your house all day waiting for a hurricane to finally hit?  Update your blog!

I thought I'd start by sharing what we have done to prepare ourselves for Hurricane Sandy (aka Frankenstorm) to hit VA.

Charge cell phone and dig out all our flash lights and lanterns.
Have your husband go to Home Depot at 6am on a Saturday in order to get a generator right off the delivery truck (he wasn't the only one who did this).
Stock up on gas for said generator
Clear off the deck and put stuff in garage
Make sure you can actually get to the car once you stuff the garage full of outdoor crap.

take down outdoor decorations in front yard
Wash all your laundry in case you lose power
Fill your tub with water in case the water goes out (this is mainly for toilet flushing since we have drinking water storage)

What did the kids do to prepare?
Kayla put on Abby's tutu and stole a pop tart from the kitchen
And proceeded to eat it on the subwoofer
Carson and Abby pulled out the legos

And convinced me to let them get a movie while at the grocery store (gotta love $5.00 Scooby Doo movies!)
Then it was time to snuggle in blankets, eat popcorn
Turn on a fire (while Kayla naps of course) and enjoy our new movie
And...maybe break into the Halloween candy.  Hey the trick-or-treaters won't miss a few Almond Joys will they?

So far we have just gotten rain.  Waiting for the heavy winds to show up later tonight.  Hope all our East Coast friends and family stay safe during the next few days.
